Escape Room FAQs | Unescapable Derby
Got questions about visiting Unescapable, Derby's premier escape room experience? We've answered the most common questions below. If you can't find what you're looking for, give us a call on 01332 470 199 or drop us an email at info@unescapable.co.uk — we're always happy to help.
What is an escape room?
You’ll be locked in a themed room where you must work as a team to solve puzzles and clues in order to escape or complete a task within the time limit of 60 minutes. It’s a fun, immersive challenge for friends, families, and colleagues — no experience necessary!
How long does the whole experience take?
Allow around 75–80 minutes in total. We ask you to arrive 5–10 minutes before your start time for a briefing and to get ready, you’ll then have up to 60 minutes in the room itself, followed by a short debrief afterwards.
When should we arrive?
Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your booked start time so we have enough time to get you briefed and ready to go. Please don’t arrive more than 10 minutes early.
What happens if we're late?
If you think you’re going to be late, please let us know as soon as possible on 01332 470 199 and we’ll do our best to help you get the most from your visit.
How scary are the rooms?
It varies by room! Tommy, Mary, Alan, and Elf and Safety are all scare-free. Edith is our horror room — it features pitch-black darkness and live actor elements, so it’s not for the faint-hearted. Each room listing includes a scare rating so you can choose the right experience for your group.
Are we really locked in?
You can leave the room at any time if needed — your safety is our priority.
What size team do I need?
Our rooms are designed for teams of 2 to 8 players. Naturally, larger teams tend to find it easier — two heads are better than one, but eight are better than two! For the best experience we’d recommend a team of 4–6.
Can I bring food and drink into the rooms?
Food and drink are not permitted inside the games. We do have a reception area where your group can wait and gather before and after your experience.
Is there somewhere to wait?
Yes — we have a reception area where members of your group can wait comfortably if people are arriving at different times.
What if we can't solve the puzzles?
Don’t worry — every game has a dedicated gamesmaster monitoring your progress. If you get stuck or go off track, they may offer hints to help keep you on the right path and give you the best chance of escaping in time.
Do we play with other teams?
No — your group will always have the room entirely to yourselves. No strangers, no awkward sharing!
What is your cancellation policy?
Once a booking is made we are unable to offer refunds for cancellations. However, if you can no longer make your slot, please let us know as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to rebook it. If we successfully fill the slot, we’ll happily reschedule your visit for another time.
Can I book the whole venue?
Yes! We offer private hire for groups who’d like to book multiple rooms or the entire venue. This is popular for corporate events, birthday parties, and large celebrations. Email us at info@unescapable.co.uk to discuss availability and pricing.
Is there an age restriction?
All our games except Edith are suitable for players aged 12 and over, though we regularly welcome younger children accompanied by adults — we’ve had kids as young as 3 enjoy our rooms with their families! If your whole group is under 16, we ask that an adult is present on site, though they don’t need to play.
For Edith, we recommend a minimum age of 16 due to the horror and live actor elements.
Is it suitable if I'm pregnant?
We’d strongly advise against playing Edith when pregnant. Our other rooms do involve some physical movement including ducking, stepping, and crawling, but we have had pregnant players enjoy them. If you’re unsure, give us a call and we’ll advise based on your specific circumstances.
I suffer from claustrophobia — can I still play?
Some of our rooms do have smaller spaces, so it really depends on the severity. We’re more than happy to chat through the specifics over the phone, and you’re even welcome to come and have a look at the venue beforehand. Just get in touch.
Do the rooms involve any crawling?
Some do. Here’s a quick guide: Tommy requires no crawling. Alan and Elf and Safety each require one player to crawl through a section. Mary and Edith require the whole team to crawl at some point. Full details are on each room’s individual page.
Are the rooms wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately our rooms are not currently wheelchair accessible, as there are stairs up to our lobby and main rooms. Some rooms also involve crawling. We’re sorry for any inconvenience — please get in touch if you’d like to discuss your specific needs and we’ll do our best to help.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, sensible clothing and footwear. Some of our rooms have dark spaces, uneven flooring, and areas that require crawling, so we’d advise against wearing anything you’d be precious about or restrictive footwear like heels.
Can I buy a gift voucher?
Yes! Unescapable gift vouchers make a brilliant present and are valid for any of our 5 rooms for 24 months. You can buy them directly through our gift vouchers page or through our booking system.
Where should I park?
We don’t have on-site parking, but there is some on-street parking directly outside our front door for up to 2 hours. For longer stays, the nearest car park is Parksafe Systems Bold Lane, a multi-storey just a short walk from us.
